Drug Cyclopenthiazide

Description:
Cyclopenthiazide are thiazide diuretics, which work by inhibiting the pumping action of the sodium / potassium that moves sodium and potassium, therefore water from the kidney filtration back into the blood. By doing so increase the manufacture of urine and reduce the water in the body. Excretion of sodium and potassium also increased.

Indications:

1. To treat hypertension by reducing blood volume.


2. To reduce the edema of congestive heart failure (CHF), premenstrual syndrome (PMS), and kidney and liver disorders.

Dosage:

1. 25-100 mg by mouth (orally), 1 times daily.


2. Maximum Dose: 200 mg / day

Side Effects:

1. Endocrine and metabolic effects (hiperuricemia and can cause gout in some patients, hypochloremic alkalosis, hyponatremia, hypokalemia, hipomagnesemia, hyperglycemia & glikosuria in patients with diabetes mellitus or other vulnerable); Securities GI (GI irritation, N / V, constipation, anorexia, diarrhea), CNS effects (headache, dizziness); Other effects (fotosensitivitas reactions, postural hypotension, impotence, hypersensitivity reactions).


2. The signs of electrolyte imbalance: headache, muscle cramps, dry mouth, hypotension, thirst, fatigue, drowsiness, and so forth.

Special Instructions:

1. Do not use thiazide if GFR (glomerular filtration rate) less than 30 ml / min unless used synergistically with loop diuretics.


2. Avoid in patients who have an imbalance of fluid and electrolytes or in those at risk of experiencing an imbalance of fluid and electrolytes (eg parents), patients with liver cirrhosis is more likely to develop hypokalemia, and patients with acute heart failure are more likely to suffer from hyponatremia, use with caution in patients kidney damage, use with caution in patients suspected of having gout and patients with diabetes mellitus.


3. Monitor patients for signs of fluid and electrolyte imbalance.
